17 to 23 October 2026, or to the 25th. Off the catamaran in Split, then one boat, a handful of buses and maybe a train, and home from Podgorica. Two of us, own rooms, one border.

    Good to know

    • Two boats on Saturday. There is no midday boat. The 09:00 TP Line lands at 14:15 and buys a Dubrovnik afternoon and sunset. The 15:10 lands at 20:20 and buys a slow Split morning. Both €50 to 55, tickets on the TP Line webshop or the app, no seat reservations, 20 kg bag included. Strong jugo or bora can cancel fast boats: then it is the bus, 3.5 to 4 h.
    • The border. Croatia to Montenegro is a Schengen exit at Karasovići and Debeli Brijeg. Passports out, allow 15 to 60 minutes. Duty-free limits into Montenegro by road: 40 cigarettes or 50 g of tobacco, 1 litre of spirits, 4 litres of wine.
    • Money. Euro in both countries. Cards work in most hotels and restaurants, cash for buses, the Blue Line and water taxis. Many ATMs charge about €5, and always decline the conversion.
    • Phone. Montenegro is outside EU roaming. A Telekom or One tourist eSIM is about €15 for 500 GB over 15 days, with some roaming in Croatia thrown in.
    • Rooms. Own room each, so every room price on the stops is per person, per night, cheapest first. They are single-occupancy estimates from booking sites, not quotes. Montenegro adds about €1 tourist tax a night, and the host registers you with the police, so hand over the passport.
    • Vapes and pouches. Legal to carry in both countries. Croatia bans vaping indoors like smoking. Montenegro bans smoking inside bars and restaurants, the vape rule is fuzzy, so ask first. Snus is not sold in Montenegro, bring your own pouches. Vapes and power banks travel in the cabin bag only, 100 Wh max.
    • Wine. Our drink of choice, so every stop names a wine spot. Order Vranac, the big local red, and Krstač, the local white. The real wine country is Crmnica around Lake Skadar: family cellars with tastings of about €10 to 20 each, by appointment. See Virpazar for the list, and the Šipčanik cellar in Podgorica.
    • October. Sea about 20 °C, sunset just before 18:00. This coast gets about 10 rainy days in October, often heavy showers in the late afternoon, so keep the mountain days flexible. The beach clubs and Budva's nightlife are shut, Herceg Novi and Kotor stay awake.
    • Clocks. Summer time ends on Sunday 25 October at 03:00. The Sunday flight is the first day of the winter schedule, so check the time on the ticket.
    • No signal? Still works. The coastline is built into this page, only the background map needs data.
